Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about DrawdownAlerts

What is a drawdown?

A drawdown is the decline from a stock's recent high to its current price, expressed as a percentage. For example, if a stock hit $100 and is now $85, that's a -15% drawdown.

What is the Drawdown Severity Score and status system?

The Drawdown Severity Score is our proprietary indicator that shows the relative severity of the current drawdown based on each asset's unique historical patterns. Scores ≤1 indicate garden-variety drawdowns, 1-5 are elevated, 5-10 are serious, and >10 are epic. We classify every stock into 9 clear levels: Green Zone (At All-Time High, Near ATH, Typical Drawdown), Yellow Zone (Slightly Elevated, Elevated, Significant), and Red Zone (Strong, Large, Epic). What are the 3 alert types?

You can configure 3 different alerts for each stock: (1) Watch Alert (default: Strong Drawdown) - stock starting to go on sale, (2) Buy Alert (default: Large Drawdown) - stock is on sale, (3) Strong Buy Alert (default: Epic Drawdown) - stock is deeply on sale. Each alert type has a 7-day cooldown to prevent spam.

How does pricing work?

Monitor 3 stocks for free with no credit card required. Need more? Our Starter plan includes 10 stocks for $19/month. You can add or remove stocks anytime, and billing adjusts automatically with pro-rated refunds when you downgrade.

Where does the data come from?

We fetch stock price data directly from Yahoo Finance, which is free and reliable. We get extensive historical daily close prices for each stock to ensure accurate statistical analysis.

How often do you update prices?

Our system automatically fetches the latest prices every weekday at 6 PM ET (one hour after market close). This ensures you get end-of-day data with time for official closing prices to settle.

Will I get too many alerts?

No! Each alert type (Watch, Buy, Strong Buy) has a 7-day cooldown period, so you won't get bombarded. Alerts are based on our 9-level status system, not arbitrary thresholds, so you only hear from us when it's truly meaningful.

Can I customize alert triggers?

Absolutely! On your dashboard, each monitored stock has 3 dropdown menus where you can choose which status level triggers each alert type. For example, you could set Watch Alert to 'Elevated' if you want earlier warnings, or 'Epic' if you only want extreme notifications.

What if I want to cancel?

You can remove stocks from monitoring anytime. Your billing adjusts immediately with pro-rated refunds. There are no long-term contracts or cancellation fees.

Do you have access to my brokerage accounts?

No! We only track stock prices and send alerts. We never access your brokerage accounts or know how many shares you own. Complete privacy.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe (industry standard). We never see or store your credit card information. All API keys are stored in Google Cloud Secret Manager.

Can I monitor ETFs or mutual funds?

Yes! Any ticker symbol available on Yahoo Finance can be monitored, including ETFs, index funds, and individual stocks.

What happens if a stock splits or has corporate actions?

Yahoo Finance provides adjusted prices that account for splits and dividends, so our calculations remain accurate through corporate actions.
